Reading Joyce's Dubliners ... Join In the Fun!

During the month of February and March, a motley assortment of friends, Romans (possibly), and countrymen/women who can claim at least occasional residence in the country known as the WWW will be doing a distributed group (very loosely defined) reading of James Joyce's Dubliners. Anyone who wants to take part can do so in whatever form they wish: using their blogs, posting here, discussion boards, google waves, wikis, in the comment sections of other participants' spaces, even paper postcards which recipients will scan and share.

Here you will find resources related to the reading, entries by those who prefer to share here directly, and intermittent "meta-posts" in which foolhardy volunteers will attempt to curate and create links to the distributed conversation, wherever it might be happening.

Join Us

We welcome participation from anyone who is interested. If you have a blog or other media, use it! If you don't, you can share by sending your thoughts to post@motleyread.posterous.com and it will appear here like magic (after a human confirms it's not robotic spam... or at least that it's interesting spam).

If you want to join in the fun, it would be helpful to send me [chris@chrislott.org] a link to the place(s) you will be participating so we can include them in the occasional summary posts. And if you'd like to be an "official" member of this Motley Readers' blog (so you can post without waiting for approval, etc) let me know which email address to use for the invitation.

The "Rules"

  • Read Dubliners (or some part of it) during the month of February
  • Share your thoughts, reflections, and questions using whatever media you prefer
  • If possible, use the motleyread tag or category to make your contributions easier to find
  • Create your own personal rules as you see fit! Want a schedule of reading, a format for your entries, etc? Make 'em up.

Postcards and Snail Mail

Various participants are willing to receive entries via postcards or on paper and will scan and post such things. I can share addresses privately, or you can send postcards and the like to me for posting:
